Steve Fowls, a member of the Bergen Sunset Club and a longtime proponent of our youth movements, spoke to the Paramus Sunrise Rotary Club about the Experience of a Lifetime, Rotary Youth Exchange.
Punctuated with a PowerPoint slide presentation including pictures, Steve outlined the requirements, the process and the joy of both sending someone overseas and the incoming people as well. Steve and Nandy, his wife, have a large 'adopted' family of young adults that they have either hosted or visited.
He mentioned that there are somewhat stringent requirements for these candidates including but not limited to: a will to learn, solid academic record, a smattering of the language for the country they will visit, be adventurous and have leadership qualities.
Assemblywoman Connie Wagner, who was visiting our club, was extremely interested and stayed after the meeting to chat with Steve. Connie is retired from her position as Guidance Counselor at Paramus High School.

Another person impressed with Steve's presentation was our District Governor, Dominic Jengo. Our President-Elect Mukesh Malkan presided and asked Dominic to say a few words. Sometimes, like me, it is difficult to say just a few words!
Our Remembrance Candle was lit by member Buzz Dressel and as is now tradition, extinguished by the last person to arrive. Assemblywoman Wagner had the honor.
